Artificial Intelligence is already taking over the world...
Just finished reading Our Final Invention by James Barrat. I've been well aware of the concepts discussed, but this book really bridged the gap between sci-fi and reality. It definitely put a lot of things into perspective for myself and pushed me to define what is really important in this life.
Whether there is some doomsday scenario around the corner (an asteroid/multiple asteroids hitting earth is most familiar having worked for Elon the past few years) or not, we only have so long and there is no sense spending it doing things that have no meaning to us.
I actually found this book so interesting that I just started another AI book, Superintelligence by Nick Bostrom. So far it seems to be more of a "nuts and bolts" piece in contrast to Barrat's read. It is interesting to see more of a focus on the artificial intelligence topic and I look forward to seeing the various media being released and it what light it will be portrayed. So far the most bleak has been the video, Humans Need Not Apply:
